I will give a talk in the Fiber-Optic Sensing Applications in Seismology session entitled Distributed Acoustic Sensing for Environmental and Weather Monitoring Using Existing Fiber-Optic Infrastructure.

I've been selected as a LIGO Fellow. As part of the fellowship I have deployed a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) array at LIGO Hanford Observatory, using telecommunication fibre as a dense seismic instrument across the site.

The campaign spans several threads:

• Seismic monitoring — using the fibre array to characterise ground motion across the observatory.
• Chamber vibration studies — measuring the vibrational response of the vacuum chambers and their surroundings.
• Rayleigh-wave characterisation — resolving the surface-wave field to understand how it couples into the detector.
• Site characterisation for Cosmic Explorer — assessing how DAS can inform the seismic and Newtonian-noise design of the next-generation observatory.

More detail, and the resulting analysis, will follow as the work develops.
